Security and Fire Alarm Systems Installer * Course Overview

Technology has taken over from physical security. Businesses,

local Governments, airports, schools, and individuals are increasingly

utilising a range of surveillance, access control, intruder and fire alarm systems, to

protect people and property. Surveillance systems are being used by Councils to protect

town centres, whilst businesses are monitoring and controlling access to sensitive areas.

Added to this is the domestic market for intruder alarm systems and the new exciting

introduction of (IP) and Network Integration technologies.


Week 1

Security and Fire Alarm Systems Cabling

This week will cover all of the different cabling types that are used to install “Fire and

Security Systems”. This will include Fire alarm, Telco, CO - AX, and Data copper/fibre

cables. This will give the successful student the skills and confidence to plan, install, test,

and maintain the Security and Fire Alarm Systems infrastructure.

• Types of cable

• Health and Safety

• Standards,codes, and methodologies

• Theory of signal transmission

• Installation techniques

• Testing and Fault Finding

Week 2+3

These weeks will give you sufficient skills and Knowledge to plan and install the basic

equipment to support the following systems.

• Fire Alarms

• Intruder/Burglar Alarms

• CCTV Surveillance

• Access Control

Plus. With the exciting and growing introduction of “Local Area Network” (LAN) and

“Internet Protocol” (IP) based Security Systems. You will be able to install and configure

IP Security equipment to integrate with customers LAN’s, which will cover the following.

• Introduction to Data Networks

• LAN Design requirements

• Installation and commissioning of IP Security Equipment

• Wireless Systems

ALL of the above are met by the use of class-room and practical sessions.
